Fertility from A to Z: F

In fertility, as in other fields of medicine, we often find scientific terms that can be confusing or difficult to understand, for this reason we decided to publish this series “Fertility from A to Z” as a glossary of terms that you will find on the way to fulfill your dream to have a baby.
Next we have for our patients the definitions of terms and keywords of health, reproduction and fertility treatments with the letter f.

Follicular phase

First half of the menstrual cycle when the development of the ovarian follicle takes place and the egg matures.

luteal phase

Days of the menstrual cycle after ovulation and ending in menstruation, during which the progesterone is produced, which is the hormone responsible for preparing the endometrium for the implantation of the embryo.

Fertilization

Penetration of the egg by the sperm and the union of genetic materials to achieve the development of an embryo.

follicle

Structure in the ovary that nourishes the developing egg and from which the egg is released.
