infertilidad masculina

One of our specialists Dr. Andrés Gutiérrez comments on: The surgical correction of varicocele widely discussed in the medical literature.

Couple infertility is a public health problem since 1 in 5 couples suffers from it. 35 percent are of pure male cause and 25 percent of the causes of infertility are a combination of male and other pathology of women.

When there is a suspicion of fertility disorder in man, he begins with an adequate clinical history, trying to find detectable factors to facilitate the study. One of the most useful parameters in the study of male infertility is the spermogram and it is the method of choice for its diagnosis and treatment, if applicable.

The spermogram is a biological evaluation of the ejaculate that requires special taking conditions but in particular it must have a reading from highly specialized personnel, the indicators of this result can clearly guide us about the treatment and recommendations of this couple.

When a couple suspects a difficulty in getting a pregnancy, the spermogram provides us with very valuable information and we have learned that couples with an important male factor usually consult more soon and that is why they are offered a treatment at a younger age with a more favorable prognosis.

The reading of the spermogram should be done in the context of the evaluation of the infertile partner. Evaluations of the count and morphology (using strict criteria- Kruger) offer us a very precise diagnosis of the clinical condition of the man, his prognosis in laboratory conditions and his possible response to medical treatment.

Varicoles can be found in 11 percent and in 25 percent of men with abnormal seminal patterns. Surgical correction of varicocele is a widely discussed chapter in the medical literature. In the current one we have consensus that the surgical correction of varicocele does not improve the reproductive capacity of the man, it allows to prevent the atrophy process that the testicle undergoes but has not managed to increase the number of pregnant patients.
